OAKVILLE – Frederick Gillette age 74 of Oakville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Vivian Dale (Hutcherson) Gillette.
Fred was born on September 4, 1948 in Waterbury, the son of the late Arthur and Christine (Butterfield) Gillette. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country in the United State Air Force. He was a member of the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Fred worked in the Grocery Industry his entire life, first at Pik-Kwik and then was the Grocery Manager for LaBonne’s Market for over 33 wonderful years. Fred loved to fish when he could find the time, enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the UConn Women and WNBA basketball. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather always placing his family ahead of all else. He will be forever remembered by all who were blessed to know and love him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory besides his wife of 51 years are his daughters; Heather Gillette of Oakville and Holly Gagnon and her husband Arthur of Terryville and their two children, Hadley and Declan. He also leaves his sister, Laura Lambion and her husband James of Port Orchard, WA and his brother, Bruce Gillette and his wife Beverly of Southbury as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers Dennis and Robert Gillette.
Funeral services for Mr. Gillette will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Watertown, 40 Deforest St. Watertown. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to the Watertown Fire Department, 935 Main St. Watertown, CT 06795.
