WATERBURY - Ms. Genevieve D. Strileckis, age 80 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 2, 2016 surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness.
Genevieve was born December 11, 1935 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late John Francis and Genevieve A. (Ives) Strileckis. She attended Hopeville Grammar School, and was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and earned her teaching degree at Southern Connecticut State University, formerly known as Connecticut Teachers College. She spent 38 years teaching as a kindergarten teacher for the City of Waterbury, 30 of those years at Gilmartin School until she retired. She enjoyed gardening, playing Bingo, baking, and making crafts. She was a member of the City of Waterbury and the State of CT Teachers Unions and was a parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church.
Among her survivors are her siblings, Anthony Strileckis and his wife, Elizabeth of Lexington, MA, Joseph Strileckis and his wife, Dale of Port Charlotte, FL, Thomas Strileckis and his wife, Michelle of Waterbury, George Strileckis and his wife, Beverly of Waterbury, Lucille Butnor and her husband, Joseph of Watertown, Maryann Strileckis of Braintree, MA. Sister Anne Marie Strileckis CND of Farmington, and Margaret Mary Strileckis of Southington as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, William, James, Vincent and John Strileckis Jr., and her sister Patrcia Guarino.
Funeral Services for Ms. Strileckis will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Genevieve's family on Tuesday evening from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
