AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - OAKVILLE ?" Mr. George J. Hayes, age 68 of Eaton St Oakville, died Thursday evening at home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Novorot) Hayes.

George was born May 10, 1941 in Jenners PA, a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Pollack) Hayes. He was a lifelong auto body and automotive mechanic and had worked for many years with DiBona Automotive in Wolcott. George was an avid fisherman and loved to spend his leisure time fishing with friends and family. He was an avid fan of UCONN basketball and the Boston Red Sox and also loved hot rods. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church.

Besides his loving wife Betty of 42 years, George leaves a daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Hewins and her husband Robert of the Netherlands, two sons, Daniel and his wife Lina of Plantsville CT and Stephen and his wife Paula of Oakville and three loving grandchildren, Jennifer, Kaitlyn and Robert. He also leaves 3 brothers, Donald and Raymond Hayes of Naugatuck and Ernest Hayes of Old Saybrook and 4 sisters, Barbara Borbas, Irene Chabot and Elizabeth Graham all of Prospect and Marie Donaher of Naugatuck as well as many nieces and nephews. His sister Margaret Maxwell is deceased.
The Hayes family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the VNA Health at Home Program of Watertown for the care and love they shared with George and his entire family through his illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Hayes will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 9:00am from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street to Saint Mary Magdalen Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 ?" 6:00pm.
