WATERBURY - George Hogrefe, age 91, formerly of Capitol Ave., Waterbury, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widower of Mary (Delahanty) Hogrefe.
Mr. Hogrefe was born in New York, New York on March 11, 1922, the son of the late Gerhard and Mary (Fuerst) Hogrefe. He was educated in New York and was a Waterbury resident for most of his adult life. George proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked as a plumbing and heating specialist at Northern Homes Distributors and enjoyed landscaping and was a very talented fieldstone wall builder. He was a parishioner Our Lady of Grace Church in Bantam and formerly a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Waterbury.
Among his survivors are his six sons, Paul and his wife Anne of Waterbury, Wayne and his wife Maryellen, Martin and his wife Sharon, Christopher and his wife Lea Ann all of Watertown, Mark and his wife Carolyn of Woodbury, Thomas and his wife Karen of Wolcott, his two daughters, Mary Hogrefe and her partner Steve of Watertown, Theresa Cervero and her husband Paul of Torrington, his sister, Dolores Stewart of Long Island, NY. his grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Thomas, Sarah, Nicholas, Julie, Bryan, Scott, Elizabeth, Emily, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Jacob and Kelsey as well as his great grandchildren, Abigail, Nathan, Avery, Aaron, Eloise and Amelia. He is predeceased by his son, Andrew and a brother, Richard.
Funeral services for Mr. Hogrefe will be held on Monday May 6, 2013, with the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at Saints Peter & Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury, at 10:00 am. Those planning on attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Rites of committal will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, at the convenience of the family.
