George E. Smith

November 9, 1923 — April 25, 2010

AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - George E. Smith, age 86, of Maple Ridge Dr., Waterbury, died peacefully Sunday morning at his home surrounded by his entire family. He was the husband of Helen (Sheehan) Smith.

George was born was born November 9, 1923 in Beacon Falls CT, a son of the late Henry and Mildred (Saxton). George graduated from Naugatuck High School and enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. George was a machine operator for the Homer Bronson Co., Beacon Falls and retired after many years of service. He was an avid NY Yankees and UConn Basketball fan. He enjoyed cooking and gardening but most of all he loved to spend time with his family.

Besides his loving wife of 25 years, George leaves his step children, Todd Hardwick of Waterbury, Cheryl Trzaski and her husband Raymond of Waterbury, Phyllis Hardwick of Clinton, a brother Gerald Smith of Beacon Falls, a sister, Marion and her husband Ralph Sabia of Torrington. Seven step grandchildren including Stephanie and Melissa with whom he lived and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step son, Raymond Hardwick and 3 brothers, Clifford, Theodore and Howard Smith and a sister Marjorie Jurzynski. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank, Dr. Kert Sabbath and his staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, especially, Karen, Marlene and Candace. A special thanks to Dr. Mongeluzzo and his staff as well as the VNA Hope Team.

A private funeral mass for Mr. Smith will be celebrated at Our Lady of Loreto Church, Waterbury. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Family and friends may visit at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville on Tuesday evening, April 27, 2010, from 5 till 8 pm.
