WATERBURY - George J. Walters Sr. age 76 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Linda (Hollingsworth) Walters.
George was born in Waterbury CT, the son of the late James Clayton and Lillian (Bernier) Walters. He was raised in Prospect CT and graduated from Wilby High School. George then joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country. After his time in the Navy, George had multiple careers including the Town of Prospect, Century Brass, Steel Technologies, ending as a Correctional Officer in Shelbyville, KY. After returning to the area in 2010, he enjoyed boating and fishing, hunting, cheating at cards but most importantly he treasured spending time with his family and friends. George was an active parishioner of the First Congregational Church in Waterbury as well as an active member of the Mason Lodge Harmony 42.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his loving wife of 57 years are his children; George J. Walters Jr (Kimberly) of Waterbury, Deborah White (Mark Miller) of Louisville KY, Meredith Kehrer MD (James) of Simpsonville KY and William Walters (Christy) of Shelbyville KY. George and Linda were blessed with 8 grandchildren; George J. Walters III, Joshua White (Leah), Krista Centeno (Joshua), Megan Renfro (Joseph), Miranda Kehrer, Morgan Kehrer, Ivy Walters and Violet Walters, and 3 great grandsons; Oliver Centeno, Mason Renfro and Milo Todd-White. He was predeceased by his brother, James C. Walters and son-in-law James White. George also leaves behind many other loved ones including in laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and step-grandchildren. .
A Memorial Service for Mr. Walters will be held on Saturday March 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church 222 West Main St Waterbury.
