THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF GERARD GIGNAC

"Loving Husband and Father"

Oakville - Gerard "Gerry" Joseph Gignac, age 93, of Oakville, CT died on July 29, 2020 at the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Denise (Lafontaine) Gignac for 68 years.

Gerard was born June 26, 1927 in Grand Mere, Quebec Canada, the son of the late Arthur Gignac and Arthemeise (Normandin) Gignac. Gerry immigrated to the US from Canada in 1962. He worked as a welder, retiring from Anaconda American Brass after 25 years. He then became a starter, "Frenchie", at Crestbrook Park and worked well into his 70s. Gerry was an avid bowler, fisherman and golfer in his younger years. He was proud of his two hole-in-ones, and once parred Crestbrook GC which made the Waterbury Rep-Am newspaper. He would become engrossed and hyper focused on his passion and then master it in every way. Gerard loved watching the Yankees, especially with his grandsons. He followed his favorite hockey team, the Canadiens, for over 85 years. One of his most memorable moments was when Gordie Howe "checked him" at a Meet and Greet, after they recounted an early game that Gordie played in and Gerry attended at The Forum. Gerard absolutely loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He cherished his time with them as well as with his great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them grow and start families of their own. It brought him so much joy.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his love and memory, besides his wife, Denise are his three children: Diane Elias (Gary) of Woodbury, Guy Gignac (Pam Southworth) of Roxbury and Doris Crone (Anthony) of Oakville, CT. He was the youngest of 9 children and was predeceased by his siblings Sinai, Rose, George, Théo, Margot, Lucille, Roger and Patrick. "Grandpapa" will be forever loved by Karen Crawford (Dave), Kathleen Ferrucci (Bryan), Jesse Elias (Kate), Nicholas Waters (Jen) and Dennis Waters. "Poppi" will be missed by his great grandchildren Jillian and Allison Crawford, Brooke and Kaleigh Ferrucci, and Brandon Waters. "Mon Oncle" is survived by several nieces and nephews including his godson, Raymond Lavallée. "Gee" is also survived by a brother-in-law, Gérard "Tis-Gris" LaFontaine (Diane) and sister-in-law, Charlotte Nadon.

Funeral services for Gerard Gignac will be held privately at the convenience of the family. To honor Gerry's memory, donations are encouraged to Parkinson's Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018. The O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St, Oakville CT has been entrusted to assist the Gignac family.
