AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME - Gertrude Theresa (Dougher) McHale, age 92 of Mango Circle, passed away Wednesday at Watertown Convalarium after a long illness. She was the widow of Frank McHale, her husband of 71 years before his passing in 2006, who was the founder of the Watertown Oakville Taxpayer's Association.

Gertrude was born August 31, 1916 in Pittston, PA., a daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Williams) Dougher and lived in Oakville since 1954. She and her husband moved to Connecticut in 1940. At that time, she started working at US Time Company, then in 1954, she became an inspector for Scovill Manufacturing and worked there until her retirement in 1977. During her retirement years, she and her husband Frank would be seen at many meetings in the Watertown community where they spent years trying to make a difference in their town. Gertrude was an excellent cook, loved to knit, read, play bingo, travel and entertain her large family. She was a communicant of Saint Mary Magdalen Church.

"Gert" as she was called is survived by her two sons, Francis (Butch) McHale of Oakville, Robert (Bob) McHale of Watertown. She also leaves a sister Rose McHale of Pittston, PA. She is lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren; Alane Pytlik, Mark, Michael, Lynn McHale, Sheri Gilchrist, Kristina Taksen, Robert McHale, Cynthia Hendricks and ten great grandchildren who was known to them as "Grandma". They will miss her rice pudding, cakes from scratch, and the delicious meals that they would always enjoy at her home. She and "Grandpa" always enjoyed making them picnics, taking them on trips and debating the many political issues of the day. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers and a sister.

Funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. directly at Saint Mary Magdalen Church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Avenue, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06112.
