Loving Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend
WATERTOWN—It is with profound sadness that the family of Ghita M. Aureli, age 91 of Watertown, shares the news of the peaceful passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Stonebridge Center for Health and Rehab in Newtown CT. She was the widow of the late William D. Aureli, her loving husband of 52 years.
Mrs. Aureli was born in Waterbury on May 3, 1933, a daughter of the late Annibale and Mary (Pietrorazio) Malanga. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School. Throughout her life, Ghita worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses. A dedicated homemaker and mother, she loved to cook and host parties. Her life’s journey was marked by faith, family, hard work and a passion for serving outstanding Italian meals, a life rich in love and service. It can be said her greatest achievement in life and the source of greatest pride was her loving family and many dear friends. She cherished each and every moment spent with those she loved, especially her children and grandchildren. Our family thanks you Mom for every prayer you said for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for the thousands of hugs you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us. Coming from a family of accomplished musicians, Ghita enjoyed playing the piano and always made music apart of holiday gatherings.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her daughters; Lydia Ann Crepon of FL, Patricia Aureli and her partner Mary Brennan of Maine, her brother, Rudy Malanga of CA. She also leaves her grandchildren; Christopher, Matthew and Michael Crepon and her former son-in-law, Doctor Norman R. Crepon, all of Waterbury as well of several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Aureli will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 when her family will receive family and friends from 8:30 -9:30 at the Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville CT. The procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to proceed to Holy Disciples Parish, St John the Evangelist Church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks on Ghita’s behalf to donate to St. Jude Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/give.html. Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence and share a memory or words of comfort with the family and friends of someone who was important to you.
