AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - Waterbury Giuseppa "Josephine" Garraffo, age 73, of Hawthorne Ave. Waterbury, died peacefully Monday, July 11th at the Vitas Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a brief but courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was the widow of James Garraffo.
Mrs. Garraffo was born May 6th 1938 in Favana Sicily, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Moscatto (Franca) Salamone. She moved to the US in the 1960's and worked as a sewing machine operator at Modern Fashions for many years and later at Helopin Manufacturing and Douglas Precision before retiring. Josephine enjoyed taking walks, and baking cookies, but most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her two granddaughters, Jessica and Jenna.
Among her survivors are her two sons, Thomas Garraffo and his wife Dawn of Waterbury, Robert Garraffo of Waterbury, her daughter Annmarie Garraffo of Waterbury, her brother Frank Salamone and his wife Maria of Waterbury, her sisters Gerlanda Salamone-Gugliotti and her husband Nick of Waterbury, Ongangelo Lombardo Salamone of France, Carmella Santamaria of Sicily and Rosa Salamone of Sicily. She also leaves her sister-in law, Antoinette Salamone of Waterbury and her two granddaughters Jessica and Jenna Garraffo as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her two brothers, Pasquale Salamone and Mike Salamone and her, sister Maria Salamone.
Funeral services for Mrs. Garraffo will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 9:30am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St. Waterbury, to SS Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 12, 2011 from 5:00 till 7:00pm. Memorial donations in Mrs. Garraffo's memory may be made to The American Cancer Society, Waterbury Chapter, 1075 Chase Parkway Waterbury, CT 06708.
