AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME: Mrs. Gladys Louise "Gram" (Jones) Smith age 96 of Shelter Hill Ave. Oakville, died Thursday June 12, 2008 at Middlebury Convalescent Home. She was the widow of Oscar Smith.
Gladys was born June 13, 1911 in Waterbury a daughter of the late John Paul and Lucy (Albert) Jones and lived in Oakville most of her life. She was a graduate of Crosby High School. Prior to her retirement in 1975, she was employed at Scovill Manufacturing Oakville Pin Shop where she worked for many years. Gladys was a Gold Star Mother of American Legion Post 195 in Watertown.
She leaves four daughters; Carol A. Wrisley of Oakville with whom she made her home before Middlebury Convalescent Home, Colleen and Harold Stevens of Oakville, Cleo and Tony Torsiello of Kentucky, Carla and George Chisek of Wolcott, a son Ernest and Sandra Smith of Woodbury, a brother George H. and Myrtle Jones of California, twenty four grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Clinton Smith and a daughter Charolette Danaher.
Funeral Monday at 11 a.m. at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends are invited to attend the services on Monday at 11:00am. Grams family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Middlebury Convalescent Home for the loving care and attention they gave to Gram over the past six years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Celebration Fund" for the staff at Middlebury Convalescent Home, 778 Middlebury Road, Middlebury, CT 06762.
