WATERTOWN CT - Harold G. "Chip" Austin Jr , age 72 formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2018 at the Vitas Hospice Unit of St Marys Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a very long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Rosemarie (Chiero) Austin.
Harold was born on May 11, 1946 in BristolCT, the son of the late Harold Sr and Josephine (Habeski) Austin. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Kaynor Tech School and proudly served his country in the US Army having earned the rank of Sergeant E-5, completing two tours during the Vietnam War. He was a CT Master Electrician and worked for many years at McDermid in Waterbury, PTC Aerospace in Bantam and at Lighting Services Inc. in Waterbury. Harold also proudly served as an Auxiliary State Trooper with the Litchfield Barracks and also as a Police Officer for the Town of Bethlehem. He loved oldies music, cop shows, car shows but will always be remembered for his devotion to his country as a true patriot. He will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
He is survived by his daughters, Wendy Austin, Jill Austin Simpson and her boyfriend, Walter Scappini and Michelle Austin Cariello and her husband, John Cariello. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his two sisters and their spouses.
Funeral services Mr. Austin will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St John the Evangelist Church 574 Main St Watertown at 10:00 a.m. Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial with full military honors will be held privately. The O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville, CT has been honored to assist the family with arrangements.
