TORRINGTON - Hazel M. Mecier, age 84, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on July 6, 2016 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of John "Frank" Mecier.
Hazel was born September 14, 1931 in Springfield, Illinois, the 3rd of 12 children of the late Walter and Margaret (Conley) Harris. As a teenager, she and her family relocated to Waterbury and although she worked throughout her life, Hazel's passion was in caring for her family. In her 84 years, her generous heart helped raise many generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece and nephews. She always put her loved ones first and demonstrated a grace, sincerity, humor and abounding love, which will be remembered by all who met her. Hazel took great joy in travelling and so did extensively throughout the United State and Europe. Along with travel, she enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and in later years spending time with friends at the Waterbury and Prospect Senior Centers. She was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Among her survivors are her children, Francis Mecier and his wife, Carol of Lancaster SC., and Cynthia McLaughlin and her husband, Kevin of Bethlehem. She also leaves her brothers, William Harris and his wife, Kathy, James Harris and his wife, Adeline, all of Waterbury and her sisters, Dora Spada of West Hartford, Margaret Taylor and her husband, Thomas of Waterbury, Rosemary Monaghan and her husband, Todd of Cape Cod, MA and FL. She also leaves her sister in law, Dolores Harris of Waterbury, and her 5 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings, Gladys Gaudiosi, Joseph Harris, Charles Harris, David Harris, Thomas Harris and Walter Harris.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mecier will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 8:15 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St.@ Southmayd Rd Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church 74 West Main St to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am. Prayers of committal will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Watertown, CT. Relatives and friends may visit with Hazel's family on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home.
