Cherished Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother

WATERBURY – Helen Marie (Corcoran) Carmody, age 97, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Saturday, August 26, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her adoring husband of 64 years, Brendan T. Carmody. They had been together since grammar school.

Helen was born in Waterbury on July 2, 1926, the daughter of the late John J. Corcoran and Catherine (Braziel) Corcoran. Helen graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School. She was a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps and worked as a Registered Nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital, NY, New York, St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT and Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury, CT. Helen later worked as a teacher’s aide at Tinker School. She was a lifelong member of St Francis Xavier Church and served on the Ladies Guild and Legion of Mary. She loved to travel with her family, to places such as Ireland, Paris, St Thomas, and summers at the Cape. At home she always entertained, providing a nice cup of tea and crumpets.

Mere words are but a feeble attempt to convey the Carmody family’s appreciation and gratitude to the Vitas Care Team and Helena Christiano and Nicky Medley for the love and comfort that you shared with Helen and her family in her final months. You will never be forgotten.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her ten children: Timothy (Cindy), Thomas, Patrick (Brenda), Mary D’Avino (Peter Paradis), Catherine Roberge, Kevin(Marlene deceased), Margaret Jasiulevicius (Algis), Christine, John, and Brenda (Stas Sienkiewicz), her 14 grandchildren: Shawn Carmody, Lauren Grenier, Meghan Soucy, Graham Michael Carmody, Kirsten Carmody, Sarah D’Avino, Hannah Miranda, Andre Roberge, Sharon Pratt, Pamela Carmody, Christina Jasiulevicius, John Jasiulevicius, Kathy Lubitski, Amanda Miller and 23 great grandchildren: Piper and Claire Carmody, Connor, Lily, and Brooklyn Grenier, Emma Soucy, Eva and Reya Miranda, Gregory Chandler, Everett and Pierce Roberge, Ayden, Ella and Anna Pratt, Brendan Carmody, Haley, Joseph, and Halina Pawelczyk, June Jae Jasiulevicius, Ellie and Zoey Lubitski, Simeon and Micah Miller. Helen was predeceased by her three brothers, John Francis “Chubby”, Thomas Edward, and William James “Billy” and her sister, Sister Patricia Corcoran, and her granddaughter, Rachel Marie D’Avino, one of the 26 lost at Sandy Hook Elementary in December 2012. Helen also predeceased several nieces and nephews.
