Watertown CT Mrs. Helen (DeRobertis) Grossane, age 88, of Cherry Ave, Watertown, died Friday evening at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury after an extended illness. She was the widow of Alfred Grossane.
Helen was born on July 10, 1919, in Brooklyn NY, the daughter of the late Gerard and Angela (DiNicola) DeRobertis. She was educated in the New York school system and spent most of her life as a dedicated homemaker and mother. She was active in her home parish, St Mary Gate of Heaven in Queens NY and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Catholic War Veterans and a den mother for the Cub Scouts. Helen re-located from Queens to Watertown in 1995 and quickly became a dear friend to many people with her inviting and warm personality. She was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church parish, a member of the Council of Catholic Women and the Solidarity of Jesus. Helen especially loved her son and her role as devoted grandmother to two adoring grandchildren who will sadly miss her.
Helen is survived by her son, Mark of Watertown and Mark's partner Mary Pinciaro, her grandchildren, Catherine and Mark Lincoln Grossane of Watertown and a sister, Michelle Cambria of Amarillo TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her sisters, Mary, Theresa, Madelene and Jean and her twin brother Anthony DeRobertis.
Funeral services for Mrs. Grossane will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 8:00am from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St Oakville to St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St Watertown for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am. A brief reception will follow Mass at the Hill's Restaurant in Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn NY. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8pm.
