Southbury ?" Mrs. Helen (Popkin) Oratz age 76, of Heritage Village, died peacefully at her home on Thursday February 12th 2009. She was the wife of Benjamin Oratz
Mrs. Oratz was born July 8th 1932 in NYC, NY; the daughter of the late Isaac Jack and Anna (Kaminsky) Popkin. She was raised in the Washington Heights upper Manhattan area where she attended local schools prior to attending City College in Manhattan. She later moved to Old Westbury Long Island where she spent many years as a devoted and loving mother and wife raising her three children as well as assisting her husband with his real estate business. She served as past president of the Women's American O.R.T. in LI. NY, and had a passion for theater and stage shows as well as traveling. While living in Heritage Village she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and neighbors playing bridge and golfing.
Besides her husband of 55 years she is survived by her two sons Douglas Alan Oratz of Maple Shade, NJ; Robert Brian Oratz of Long Island, NY; a daughter Stephanie Oratz Basta of Larchmont, NY; A sister Harriet Estes of Forest Hills, NY, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Oratz will be held Sunday February 15 at Temple B'Nai Israel 444 Main St North Southbury, CT 06488 at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial in Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus NJ.
