WATERBURY - Hortense B. Salerno age 93 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at her home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness. She was the widow of Michael A. Salerno.
Mrs. Salerno was born April 19th 1922 in Saint Barnabe-Nord, Province de Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Ovila and Eva (Desaulniers) Boisvert. She grew up in Canada and moved to the United States as a teenager. She spent many years working at Scovill Manufacturing and then continued her studies and received her degree in nursing and spent over 18 years as a L.P.N. at Saint Mary's Hospital before retiring. She was a talented guitarist and enjoyed playing the guitar and taught classes at the Mecca School of Music. Hortense enjoyed caring for people, especially her family, whenever someone fell ill she was always right there to assist them in any way she could. She was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and was also a member of their Choir.
Among her survivors are her children; Michael Salerno Jr. and his wife, Heather of Topeka, KS and Linda Salerno of Waterbury. She also leaves her brother, Francois Boisvert of Quebec, Canada, her brother in law, David Tracy of Waterbury and her two grandchildren, Lisa and Michael Salerno III in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Salerno will be held on Saturday January 30th at 9:30a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St. to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Hortense's family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 8:30am ~9:30am.
