Waterbury- Howard "Terry" Girouard, age 69, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Terry was born in Waterbury, CT on May 23, 1943, the son of the late Howard F. and Ruth L. (Roberts) Girouard. He was a graduate of Croft High School and attended Mattatuck Community College. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant with the survey section of the US Army, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War.
Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, Terry returned to work at Waterbury Farrell and then joined the Waterbury Police Department in May of 1973 serving as a police officer for 30 years. Terry was one of the original "RX" neighborhood officers in Waterbury which originated in 1980. He was currently employed as a (CSO) Court Security Officer at the US Federal Court in Bridgeport, and has served there for the past ten years. He was a former coach of the ST Pius CYO basketball team and was a member of the Wolcott Volunteer Fire Department CO#1 for many years.
Terry is survived by his beloved children, his son, Patrick J. Girouard of Wolcott, and daughter Ann Marie Girouard of Harwington, his most cherished grandson, Michael Steven Febbriello Jr. of Wolcott, his brother Lt. Col. (Ret) Robert H. Girouard and his wife, Irene of Fayetteville, North Carolina, his ex-wife, Catherine Nolan Girouard of Wolcott, seven nieces, one nephew and numerous cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Girouard will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Pius X Church, Wolcott. Those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Rites of Committal will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
