WATERBURY- Irene (Carpentier) Lamontagne, age 98 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Abbott Terrace surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph Lamontagne.
Irene was born in Waterbury on March 2, 1918 the daughter of the late William and Jeannette (Bigue) Carpentier. She was educated in local schools and worked for a brief time as a Secretary before becoming a full time Mom and homemaker. Irene loved gardening, cooking, sewing and watching EWTN on television. She enjoyed playing the piano and dancing but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church.
Irene is survived by her children, her son, Joseph Lamontagne and his wife, Anne of Cheshire and her daughter, Jeanette Tapper of Waterbury with whom she made her home. She also leaves a brother, William Carpentier of Wolcott and 5 grandchildren; Michelle, Joelle, Peter, Marc and Jennifer, her great granddaughter, Adelyn and her daughter in law, Marion Bullis as well as several, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Peter Lamontagne.
Irene's family would like to acknowledge and thank her home health aide, Murline Fraser, Dr. Jega and his staff, the staff at Abbott Terrace H.C. and New England Homecare for the care and love they shared with Irene and her family during her illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lamontagne will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd to St Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Irene's family on Saturday morning from 8:30 till 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
