WATERBURY- Mrs. Irene Anne Stone, age 88, of Waterbury, died Friday May 9th 2014, at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital Vitas after a brief illness. She was the widow of Thomas I. Stone to whom she was married for 56 years.
Mrs. Stone was born in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Eugene and Marcella (Kerrigan) O'Neill. She attended Saints Peter and Paul Grammar School and was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School. She worked at Scovill Manufacturing for a short time before becoming a loving and dedicated homemaker with a keen sense of humor. Irene was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Church where she was a member of the Madonna Guild.
Among her survivors are her two sons, Richard Stone and his wife Susan of Waterbury and James Stone of San Diego, CA. as well as her 5 granddaughters who adored her; Erika, Leanne, Pamela, Jillian and Alexandra Stone and her great grandchild Parker S. Maloney. She also leaves a sister, Mary E. O'Neill and a nephew, State Representative Arthur O'Neill. She is predeceased by her brother, Arthur O'Neill.
A Memorial service for Mrs. Stone will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 7:00pm at Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St. at Southmayd Rd., Waterbury. Committal services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Irene's family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Irene's memory may be made to Saint Peter and Paul School, 116 Beecher Ave Waterbury, CT 06705.
