AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - Waterbury, CT. Mrs. Irene M. ( Bellemare) Zabit, age 79, of Townsend Ave Waterbury, died unexpectedly on Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Robert J. Zabit Sr. who passed away in December 2008..
Irene was born February 20, 1931 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Henry and Lydia (Bourassa) Bellemare. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and retired from Timex as a customer service representative. Irene was a devoted wife and mother but her favorite role was grandmother. She loved to shop and sew but time with her family, babysitting her grandchildren was by far her favorite pastime. She was a longtime parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
Irene is survived by her three children, Robert J. Zabit Jr. and his wife Paula of Plymouth, James "Jim" Zabit and his wife Sue of Bethlehem and Janet Morin and her husband, John of Wolcott. Irene also leaves a brother Richard Bellemare of Naugatuck and a sister, Vivian Shugrue of Southington as well as six grandchildren, John Morin Jr., Lindsay Kress and Matthew Morin, Jennifer, Karly and Lauren Zabit and many nieces and nephews. Irene was pre-deceased by a son, Kenneth in 1967.
Funeral services for Mrs. Zabit will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2010 at 9:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4-7pm.
