OAKVILLE - Jacob F. Schuster, 88, of Oakville passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital with his loving wife, Helga, and family at his side.
Jacob was born in Molin, Yugoslavia on June 17, 1929, the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Bering) Schuster. While living in Austria, in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army and served valiantly as a Corporal in the 461st Ordinance Company, 67th Battalion of the 8th Army in the Korean War, thus becoming a US citizen. Jacob then met the love of his life, Helga, in Oakville in 1956. He worked as a toolmaker at Bond Tool and Devon Precision, from where he retired. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 7330 in Oakville. An avid golfer, bowler, and fisherman, Jacob was loved by everyone he met and remembered for his humor and patriotism.
Jacob leaves his adoring partner of 58 years, Helga (Plaul) Schuster, his niece, Christina (Richard) Casey of Oakville, his nephews, Gerhard (Eleanor) and Richard (Lily) Schuster of Linz, Austria, as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as "Opa".
