WATERBURY - It is with deep sorrow that the family of Jairo Javier Vega Cantillo, announce his passing on Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the age of 67. 

Jairo was born on May 21, 1957, in Barranquilla, Colombia, to the late Orajes Manuel Vega and Bernarda Mercedes Cantillo de Vega. Jairo had a zest for life, with a passion for traveling and an impressive collection of shoes. He was an enthusiastic fan of both soccer and baseball, cheering fervently for the New York Yankees and the Colombian Soccer Federation team (FCF). Music was another of Jairo’s loves, and he especially cherished the times when his family gathered to celebrate his birthday, an event that never failed to bring a smile to his face. He also had a refined palate and enjoyed indulging in the finest foods.

Known for his kindness and generosity, Jairo was a beloved figure to many. He is survived by his 12 siblings: Alvaro, Maria I, Miriam, Orajes, Nancy, Maria C, Jose, Nora, Rafael, Margarita, Ricardo, and Jorge. His legacy continues through his 24 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Jairo was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his warmth and generosity. Rest in peace, Jairo Javier Vega Cantillo. You will be forever missed.

Funeral services for Mr. Vega Cantillo will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Parish the Shrine of St Anne’s Church, South Main St Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with his family on Thursday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705.
