THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF JAMES T. BREENEY
CHARLOTTE , NC - James T. Breeney of Middlebury & Charlotte, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on October 21 in Charlotte NC after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Holland Breeney.
Jim was born in New Haven on October 23, 1931 son of the late John & Bridget Breeney. He grew up on Washington Hill in Waterbury and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. Jim was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War and was an avid reader and Korean War historian. The majority of his career was spent working for SNET in Waterbury. After retiring, he became an entrepreneur and was part owner of the restaurant Across from the Horse and developer at Black Rock Condos with his friend, Terry Foley. Back in 1970-1980, he was a member of the City of Waterbury, Board of Alderman, Police Commissioner and part owner of the Conway Funeral Home. Jim was a lifetime member of the Waterbury Elks Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. His hobbies were gun collecting and gun shows with his friend Sal Santopietro and golfing with his Wednesday gang from Western Hills. An avid fan of the UConn Lady Huskies, he never missed a game even while he was living in Charlotte. He mastered the art of the internet and live streamed each game for him and Dorothy. Jim loved all things Irish, and enjoyed his annual trips to Ireland to visit his favorite cousin Dave and his family. He made sure that his grandchildren learned about their Irish roots and relatives as they grew.
He leaves behind his loving family, his son, James and his wife, Beth of Charlotte, grandson Collin of NYC and granddaughters Cari Croom (Dallas) and Kelly of Charlotte. He leaves behind many cousins from Galway and Mitchellstown, Ireland.
Funeral services for Mr Breeney will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St Waterbury CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial of his and his beloved wife's remains will be in Ireland. Military honors will accorded Mr Breeney following the funeral mass at the church. Relatives and friends may visit with Jim's family on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4:00 till 6:00 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury CT. To honor Jim's memory and to support his love of country and veterans organizations and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following veteran organizations or one of your choosing.
