"Devoted husband, father and grandfather"
WOLCOTT -James F. Doyle Jr. age 83, of Wolcott, passed away on Thursday evening January 13 at Saint Mary's Vitas Innovative Care Unit surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness. He was the widow of Sheila (Kwasinskas) Doyle and husband of Claudette (DiGiovancarlo) Doyle.
James was born July 3, 1938 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late James F. and Dorothy (Windebank) Doyle, Sr. Jim was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School where he enjoyed playing baseball. Jim began his career at CL&P at the age of 18 and after spending 3 years as a lineman, Jim was in a tragic electrical accident leaving him an amputee. However, this never discouraged Jim and it never slowed him down. Seven months after the accident, he proudly walked his first wife, Sheila down the aisle at their wedding. Jim continued working for CL&P as a carpenter until his retirement in 1993. Despite his disability, Jim continued to play and coach baseball throughout his early life. He was a active member of the Wolcott Knights of Columbus where he was a 4th degree Knight and also served as Grand Knight. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and was a constant, active supporter of all of his grandchildrens activities. Jim was a devout Catholic, teaching CCD at St Pius X, where he served as the catechism Principal and was active in the Saint Francis Xavier Minstrel where he met his second wife, Claudette. They would faithfully watch mass and pray the rosary together, daily.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife, Claudette of 12 years are his son, James F. Doyle III and Karen of Wolcott, his daughters; Kelly DelGobbo, (John) ,of Wolcott and Colleen Doyle of Wolcott. He also leaves his stepchildren, Ginny Patnode, (Dennis), Carolyn FitzMaurice, (Kevin), Vincent DiGovancarlo, (Sandee), and Joseph DiGovancarlo, (Beckie). In addition, he leaves his siblings; William Doyle, (Theresa), Margaret Mannello, (Paul), Helen Carpini, (Richard), Mary Iamkis, (David), and his sister in law, Cindy Kwasinskas. Jim was blessed with 6 grandchildren; Christopher, (Leah), Ryan, (Kayla), Caitlin, (Anthony), Emily, (Max), James IV, and Tommi, as well as 7 step grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, Cody, as well as 5 step great grandchildren, all who meant the world to Jim.
Funeral services for Mr. Doyle will be held on Wednesday January 19, 2022 at 10:30 am from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd, Waterbury, CT 06705 to Saint Francis Xavier Church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery Wolcott. Relatives and friends may visit with Jim's family on Wednesday morning from 9:30 till 10:30 at the funeral home. We continue to remain very concerned about the ongoing pandemic, so masks will be required during all indoor services regardless of your current vaccination status.
