WATERBURY- James J. Lawlor, age 44, of Waterbury, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Jim was born November 22, 1969 in New Haven, CT, the son of Rosemary (O'Connor) Lawlor and the late Joseph H. Lawlor. He grew up in Wolcott and was a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Waterbury. He continued his education at Central Connecticut State University where he earned his bachelor degree in communications and Quinnipiac University School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Jim spent many years working for the State of Connecticut Judicial Branch where he was assigned to the Waterbury Superior Court as a court planner. His love for and dedication to his job were unsurpassed as demonstrated by his determination to work throughout his illness until just two weeks before his passing. Known for his quick wit and encyclopedic knowledge of any topic that intrigued him, Jim enjoyed music, movies, literature, politics, hiking and bicycling, as well as taking long rides in his beloved Mini Cooper. He was also a talented cook. Besides his mother Rosemary, Jim is survived by his sister, Eileen Lawlor of New Britain, his adoring nieces Samara and Leila Parker, his uncle, Brian Lawlor, as well as many cousins. He is predeceased by his infant brother, Joseph Lawlor, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial service for Mr. Lawlor will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 5:00pm at Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center", 1987 East Main St. @ Southmayd Rd., Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Jim's family following the service from 5:30pm till 8:00pm at the funeral home. Committal services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's memory can be made to Closer to Free, a joint effort of Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
