THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF JAMES E. PETTIT
WATERBURY- James E. Pettit age 81 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his entire family, after an extended illness. He was the loving husband of Maureen (Mullen) Pettit.
Jim was born on August 19, 1936 in Waterbury the son of the late Captain Joseph H (WPD Ret) and Anne (O'Rourke) Pettit. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Fairfield University and the University of Bridgeport with a Masters Degree. Jim taught in the Waterbury School System for 35 years and early in his career was assigned to Walsh School where he also coached basketball and proudly led their team to many Championships. Most of his teaching career was at Kennedy High School where he loved his students and vocation and they loved him back. He always looked forward to family vacations and he will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him. Jim was a quiet man, with deep morals who was devoted to his wife and family who were his highest priority in life. If Jim was your friend, you had a friend for life.
Besides his wife of 59 years. Jim leaves his children; sons, James and his wife, Louise of Atlanta and Joseph and his wife, Karen of Cheshire, his daughters, Mary Ellen Pettit of Durham and Maura Bemer and her husband, Louis of Waterbury. He also leaves his brother, the Rev. Joseph Pettit of Waterbury and his ten beloved grandchildren; Maura, Molly and Bridget Fehon, Emma and Sophie Pettit, Erik, James and Riley Pettit and Abigail and Sam Bemer. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Pettit. The Pettit family would like acknowledge and thank the staff at Hartford Healthcare at Home, Hospice Program for the extraordinary dedication and care they shared with Jim and his family during his illness, especially two "special" angels, Tammy and Olga.
Funeral Services for Mr. Pettit will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:00 at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire ,111 Church Dr. Cheshire CT. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Jim's family on Thursday evening at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @Southmayd Rd.
