Punta Gorda, FL - Mrs. Jane Marie Johnston, age 90, formerly of Waterbury, died peacefully Friday November 14th, 2014, at Tidewell Hospice Center, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief illness. She was the widow of Joseph J. Johnston.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Waterbury on September 8, 1924, the daughter of the late Lester and Florence (née McGovern) Verzier. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the banking industry at Centerbank in downtown Waterbury. She was a parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Church and a member of the St. Francis Xavier Retirees and the Ladies Guild and School PTA.
Among her survivors are her son Tim Johnston, her son Jay Johnston and daughter in law Jeanne Johnston, all of Punta Gorda, FL, her son Brian Johnston and daughter in law Denise Johnston of Waterbury, her daughter Dianne Johnston of Southbury Training School, her seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter, Christine.
Jane was quite active throughout her life and loved to swim, bowl and golf. She made Sunday dinner after mass for her daughter Dianne who loved her cooking and riding with her in the car. Her love of life, dedication to her family and quick wit will be greatly missed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnston will be held on Wednesday November 19th, at 10:00 a.m. at EASTSIDE MEMORIAL "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center," (1987 East Main St., Waterbury) to St. Francis Xavier Church (625 Baldwin St., Waterbury) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Relatives and friends may visit with Jane's family on Wednesday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 ~ 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Home and School Association of Southbury Training School PO Box 872 Southbury, CT 06488.
