WOLCOTT - Jane M (McCarthy) (Holland) McGrath, age 87 of Wolcott, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Marys Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Daniel "Don" McGrath.
Jane was born on October 8, 1929 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Joseph and Winifred (Gavin) McCarthy. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and Waterbury Catholic High School. Jane worked as a bookkeeper for many years and was an avid reader. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was known for having a mind of her own and not afraid to speak it. Jane was generous and determined beyond words but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was an active parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church in Waterbury where she was privileged to serve as a Minister of the Eucharist.
Jane is survived by her children; Kevin Holland and his wife, Maureen of Florida, Patricia Casey and Steve Hoethke of Prospect, Gregory Holland and his wife, Sandi of Bowling Green KY and Nanci Verrastro and her husband, Mark of Apollo Beach FL. She also leaves her devoted grandchildren; Alisha, Ryan, Sean, Joseph, Kelley, Ava and Nikole and her great granddaughters, Emily and Lizabeth.
Funeral services for Mrs. McGrath will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:30 from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church, 143 Southmayd Rd Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Martin Ryan as principal celebrant. Burial will follow in the family plot in New St. Joseph Cemetery, Waterbury.
