OAKVILLE- Janet (Harnick) Descoteaux, age 79, of Oakville passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of David Descoteaux to whom she was married for 51 wonderful years.
Janet was born on April 6, 1944, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Phalen) Harnick. She was a graduate of Croft High School and went on to complete her associate degree at Post University. Janet worked for Uniroyal in the secretarial department, she then spent many years as an administrator for Metlife, and then as a “guest” bartender for Jody Sands at Bobby D’s Café for 15 years. She was an accomplished golfer and was a member of both the Watertown Golf Club and Pequabuck in Bristol. Janet enjoyed her trips to the casino with her daughter, cooking delicious food, especially her famous eggplant parmesan, but mostly she was a people person who loved to spend time with her family, grandsons, and many friends. Janet was exceptional in almost every way, but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Our family thanks you Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children Richard (Sherri) Descoteaux, and Danelle (Herb) Contois, her grandsons; Ricky Descoteaux and his fiancé Steph, and David Contois. Janet leaves behind her sister, Lynn (Earl) Schabel, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends. Janet was predeceased by her brother, John Harnick.
