Janice M. McKeown

October 19, 1946 — June 15, 2015

PROSPECT - Janice "Jan" M. McKeown, age 68 of Prospect, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer on Monday June 15th 2015. She was the beloved wife of John McKeown.

Jan was born October 19th 1946 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Welly and Flore´ (Lafreniere) Mailhot. She grew up in Watertown and was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High and received her Bachelors Degree in Human Services from Southern Connecticut State University and spent many years working as a sales associate at the former SNET until her retirement. Jan was a well-trained long distance runner and athlete who participated in many road races across Connecticut and the United States. She was a member of the Libra AA running Club, the Warren Street Running Club and the Mohegan Strides just to name a few. One of her proudest moments was when she participated in carrying the Olympic Torch during the 1996 Olympics, but always seemed happiest while spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and a parishioner of Saint Anthony's Church in Prospect and was a devoted UCONN Women's basketball fan and loved to cheer on the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Besides her husband John of 46 years, Jan is survived by her son, Matthew McKeown and his wife Mary of Summerville, SC and their three sons; Dylan, Sean, & Aron. She also leaves two brothers, Reale Mailhot, and Rich Mailhot, both of Watertown, four sisters, Irene Lampron of Oakville, Lorraine Cable of Southbury, Mary Ann Zigadto, and Linda Mangini both of Watertown. She was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Andrew and Paul Mailhot and her sister,Teresa DeCarufel.

The McKeown family would like to thank and acknowledge the Doctors and Staff at Smilow Cancer Center, especially the Infusion 7 team and the 11 N.P. staff for the loving care and support they provided to Jan and her family.

Funeral Services for Mrs. McKeown will be held on Friday June 19th 2015 at 11:30am at Saint Anthony's Church 4 Union City Rd, Prospect, CT 06712. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Jan's family on Thursday June 18th from 5:00-8:00 pm at EASTSIDE MEMORIAL "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St Waterbury.
