CHESHIRE - Jean A. Dowling age 91 of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2016 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness. She was the wife of Terrence Dowling.
Jean was born February 13, 1925 in Bethlehem, CT, the daughter of the late Frederick Candee and Isadore (Fish) Stevens. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and received her B.S. degree in Education from the Danbury State Teachers College. Jean spent many years as a teacher of music and was an accomplished pianist and organ player and was a bell choir director and music director for several churches including First Church of Fairfield and at the Covenant Church of Easton as well as several others. She was the Director of Swedish Northern Lights Choir, a member of the Wednesday Afternoon Music Club, as well as a member of the music committee at First Congregational Church of Waterbury where she was an active parishioner. Jean was a gracious, hospitable, and creative host of themed parties and enjoyed hosting them for her friends and family.
Besides her husband of 67 years, Terrence, Jean is survived by her children, Darryl S. Dowling of Newport, RI, Dana T. Dowling and his wife, Andi Taroli, M.D. of Carlisle, PA, her daughters, Robin Griskus of Wolcott, and Stacey Behboudi of Fairfield in addition to her seven grandchildren and her great granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Shortt and her son in law, Patrick Griskus.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Dowling will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at First Congregational Church of Waterbury 222 West Main St Waterbury, CT Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Jean's family at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Road in Waterbury on Tuesday, November 29th from 5:00 ~ 7:00pm.
