NEWTOWN-Jean Ellen Marcoux passed away peacefully on Thursday October 19, 2023.
Jean was born in Bridgeport, CT in 1942 to Beatrice (Bertrand) and James Lynch. She and her siblings were raised in the South End of Waterbury, where they attended St. Anne’s Parish Catholic Church and School. Her childhood summers were spent with relatives in Pierreville, Québec, Canada.
Upon graduation from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School, Jean embarked on a career as a hairdresser. Jean married John Marcoux, and they settled in the Bunker Hill section of Waterbury, where they raised three children. John passed away in 1986 after battling cancer. Following the untimely death of her husband, Jean continued a successful career as a unit secretary at Waterbury Hospital, Waterbury Extended Care Facility, and Bradley Memorial Hospital. She loved being a member of the care team at each of these workplaces, and to each she contributed her signature vitality, charisma, and humor.
Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, a loyal friend, a compassionate listener, and a fierce advocate. She highly valued education and worked tirelessly to provide her children with opportunities to follow their vocations. Jean also loved her pets -especially dogs- caring for at least one dog (but more often two or three) her entire adult life.
Jean is survived by her daughters Melissa Marcoux, of Naugatuck and Amy Sedensky and her husband Mark, of Middlebury; her son Jon Marcoux and his wife Christine, of Charleston, SC; her sisters Judy Cronan, of Watertown and Jacqueline Ospalek, of Waterbury; her grandchildren John and Cole Vichioli, Ava and Jack Sedensky, and John and William Marcoux; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John Marcoux; and brother James Lynch.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff of Newtown Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, who provided excellent care to Jean over the past two years.
