Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt
WATERTOWN - Jean (Minnehan) Petro-Roy, age 87, of Watertown, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital on October 12, 2022 after an extended
illness. She was the beloved wife of Mario Petro-Roy for 58 years, before his passing in 2018.
Jean was born March 13, 1935 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Frank W. and Victoria (Dwonkowski) Minnehan. She graduated from Wilby High School and spent most of her career at The Easter Seal Job Shop of Watertown selflessly helping to rehabilitate clients so that they could live and work on their own with minimal or no intervention. After retiring from Easter Seals, she worked for several more years as a bookkeeper for Dube Electric in Waterbury. She was a prolific knitter and often gave gifts of knitted sweaters, booties and blankets to all her family and close friends. She loved to read mystery novels and took many adventurous road trips with her sister, Eileen. She was a parishioner of Mary, Mother of the Church Parish.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory, are her daughter, Diane Meccariello of Watertown, her son; Michael Petro-Roy and his partner, Becky Galian of Waterbury, her grandson; Andrew Meccariello and granddaughter; Kayla Ontko, great grandson; Vin Harrison as well as her sister and best friend, Eileen Roberts, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Mario, she was predeceased by a brother, Francis Minnehan.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Petro-Roy will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, when a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at 57 Southmayd Rd, Waterbury. Burial will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with the Petro-Roy family on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St Waterbury.
