WATERBURY – Mrs. Jean P. Schmidt, age 92, of Waterbury, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Gene Schmidt.
Jean was born April 19, 1931, in Stafford Springs, CT, the daughter of the late James C. and Evelyn (Glazier) Relihan. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and was the co-owner of Schmidt's and Serafine's Hardware. She also worked at Chase Brass and Copper and the Worth's Department Store. While her life was devoted to her family, her favorite pastime and love was singing. She sang in the chorus in high school, the St. Michael’s Church Choir, The Chase Chorus, she was the past President of Sweet Adeline’s and a member of the Waterbury Chorale for 25 years. Jean was a Director of the Bucks Hill Community Club and a trustee of Bucks Hill Cemetery. A lifelong, devoted parishioner of St. Michael's Church, she was an active member of the Ladies Guild and Bereavement Committee. Jean’s family wishes to thank their Mom for every prayer she uttered for them, for the many sacrifices she made for them, for the thousands of hugs shared with them and the unending love she instilled in all of them. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children: daughters, Jill Keilty and her husband Patrick of Bethlehem, and Lori Needham of Waterbury, her son, Lee R. Schmidt and his wife Sharon of Waterbury, and her brother, Dennis Relihan and his wife, Connie of AZ. She also leaves her grandchildren; Rachel, Lee, Ben, Jesse, Amanda and Melissa and her great granddaughter, Hadley Mae. She was predeceased by her son, Jaysen Schmidt, her brother, James Relihan and son in law, Sean Needham.
Funeral services for Mrs. Schmidt will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Bucks Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the Schmidt family on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury CT 06705.
