WATERBURY - Mrs. Joan A. Donahue , age 87 of Waterbury, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was the devoted wife of Donald G. Donahue Sr.
Joan was born November 12, 1928 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Stanley and Agnes (Nyland) Bristol. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar and High School and was employed for many years as a Clerk at Sears in Waterbury. Joan enjoyed her monthly trips to the casino and was particularly proud to knit caps for hospital newborns. She was a former President of the Sacred Heart High "Mothers Club" and was a longtime parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church in Waterbury. Joan loved to cook, especially for Sunday dinner with her family. Most of all, Joan was a loving and devoted, wife, mother and grandmother and was happiest when in the midst of her large family.
Besides her husband, Donald of 65 years, Joan leaves her children; sons, Donald Donahue Jr and his wife, Juliette of Waterbury, James Donahue and his wife, Robin of Oakville, Kenneth Donahue and his wife, Maureen of Watertown, and Kevin Donahue and his wife, Kim of Camden NY, daughters, Eileen Loranger and her husband, Roland of Bristol and Kathleen Langdo and her husband, Phil of Waterbury. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her sister, Anne Williams, her son, Richard Donahue and her grandson, James Donahue Jr.
Funeral services for Mrs. Donahue will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St Waterbury to Saints Peter and Paul Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
