WATERTOWN- JOAN MARIE (ASEL) HOETHKE, 75 of Buckingham Street formerly of Waterbury, died Friday at Waterbury Extended Care in Watertown after a brief illness. She was the widow of John R. Hoethke.
Joan was born July 16, 1932 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late John and Florence (Lavalette) Asel and lived in Watertown for the past 10 years moving from Waterbury where she lived most of her life. She was a graduate of Webster Grammar School and Crosby High School. Prior to her retirement in 1999, she was employed as a machine operator at Iseli Manufacturing in Thomaston where she worked for over 27 years. Joan especially enjoyed her friends at Country Ridge. She was and avid reader, baker and knitter who also loved to travel. Joan was also an active member of the Evergreen Club and Healthy Hearts at Waterbury Hospital. Following the death of her husband in 1972, she continued raising her children with love and devotion and was very proud of all of their accomplishments. She had a contagious laughter and smile that brought joy to everyone she met. Joan was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who loved to baby-sit her grandchildren.
She leaves four daughters Janice Booth of Thomaston, Diane Zarrella of North Carolina, Debra Gilson of Canton, Kathy Zliczewski of Kensington, a son Kevin Hoethke of Farmington, two sisters Mae Caouette of FL., Ruth Knapp of Watertown, a brother John Asel of Marion and five granddaughters and four grandsons whom she adored. She was predeceased by a daughter Karen Hoethke and a brother Edmund Asel. We will miss you mom.
Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. The O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street has been entrusted with her arrangements.
