Loving Mother, Grandmother and great grandmother
WATERBURY – It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Joan Meccariello, age 87, of Waterbury, announces her passing on Friday, April 26th, 2024, at The Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Andrew Meccariello Sr.
Joan was born January 16th, 1937, in Waterbury, Ct, the daughter of the late George and Clara (Weidman) LaPlante. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and worked various jobs throughout the Waterbury area, but none more important than being a loving wife, mother, and dedicated homemaker, and grandmother. She was a die hard New York Yankees and Derek Jeter fan and enjoyed bowling, and playing bingo. Joan always looked forward to her afternoon viewing of General Hospital but was always happiest while spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Our family thanks you, Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for the thousands of hugs you shared with us, and for the unending love you instilled in all of us.
Left to honor her memory and cherish her legacy are her three children Andrew Meccariello Jr and his wife Kathleen of Cheshire, Christine Lavorgna of Bristol and Nancy Urbanski and her husband Mark of Wolcott. She also leaves her two sisters-in-laws Eleanor Meccariello and Helen LaPlante both of Waterbury. In addition, she also leaves her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her grandson Andrew Meccariello III and her siblings George, Henry, and John LaPlante, and sisters Dorothy Lanese and Marjorie Nido.
A memorial gathering for Mrs. Meccariello will be held on Thursday, May 2nd, from 10:00am to 12:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence or words of comfort or share a memory of someone important to you with your family and friends. Please visit the funeral home’s tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to do so. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the Meccariello family, please visit our Sympathy Store.
