Waterbury - John Vincent Baranauskas, age 87, formerly of Cooper Dr. Waterbury, died peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Abbott Terrace Health Care Center after brief but valliant battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Marie (LoRusso) Baranauskas.
John was born in Waterbury on January 22, 1923, a son of the late Joseph and Ann "Ona" (Rizgalis) Baranauskas. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1941 and a veteran of the US Army having proudly served his country during World War II. John was employed at Scovill Mfg and Century Brass as a machinist and hydraulic engineer and retired after many years of service. John coached youngsters in both the Bucks Hill "Small Fry" Baseball League and the Wolcott Midget Football Leagues. John loved to garden and enjoyed making wooden toys and bird houses. He was a member of St. Michael's RC Church.
John is survived by his daughter, Theresa Wheeler and her husband, Daniel of Prospect, 3 grandchildren, Daniel Wheeler Jr., Julie and Marie Wheeler as well as a brother, Albert Baranauskas Sr. two sisters; Nellie Daversa and Vera Baranauskas. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:00a.m. Friday May 7, 2010 at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church 62 Saint Michael's Drive, Waterbury. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in Mr. Baranauskas' memory may be made to the Prospect Volunteer Fire Dept. Prospect CT 06712.
