WATERBURY – Mr. John D. Carroll, age 69, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the Silver Springs Nursing Care Center in Meriden, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Margaret (Sedlak) Carroll.

John was born July 9, 1953, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late John F. and Betty Ann (Carrington) Carroll. He was a graduate of Kennedy High School and attended Providence College and City College in Washington where he achieved 3 master’s degrees in business and social science, as well as several other degrees. John proudly joined the US Army in 1978 and had a long career as a record keeper for the U.S. government. He spent time stationed in Germany and served two tours during Iraqi Freedom. John was a history buff and enjoyed studying and learning about history. Fitness and health were also important to John; he was an avid runner and participated in many marathons, including running in the Boston Marathon twice, and he was a member of the Connecticut National Guard Road Race Team. John participated with several local political parties in the City of Waterbury and held various positions, including the Ass’t Registrar of Voters. He was a member of the Elks Club, the Knight of Columbus, and the American Legion and he was an avid animal lover.

To honor his legacy and cherish his memories, John leaves behind his daughter, Heather Mallon and her husband, Thomas of Prospect, his son, Sean Carroll of Waterbury as well as his brother, Mark Carroll and his wife, Nerina of North Port, FL, his brother-in-law, Russ Hurley of Goshen and his grandchildren Patrick, Devin, Lily, and Hope as well as several other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Hurley and his brother, James Carroll.

Funeral Services for Mr. Carroll will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church, 74 West Main St., Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:00 noon at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT 06457.
