AT THE O'NEILL FUENRAL HOME - DR. JOHN G. GRIFFITH II, COLONEL, US ARMY (Ret.)

WATERTOWN ?" Dr. John G. Griffith II, Colonel, US Army (Ret.) age 78, of Academy Hill, died Friday evening at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Alyce (Rock) Griffith.

John was born July 4, 1930 in Sharon, PA a son of the late John G. and Mildred (Shorts) Griffith and lived in Watertown since 1976. John was a graduate of Newark High School in Newark, Ohio, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Ohio State University College of Dentistry, and the University Of Pennsylvania Graduate School Of Medicine. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, Danbury Dental Society, American Society of Dental
Anesthesiology, American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, and the Retired Officers Association of the U.S. Military, a former chairman of the Watertown Board of Assessment Appeals and a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. John was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served in the Altar Guild, and was a Senior Warden of the church. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and retired as a Colonel in 1976 after 20 years. He was an oral surgeon and dental surgeon, and served at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 1970 to 1974. After retirement, he went into private practice as a dentist and oral surgeon until his retirement in 2003.

Besides his wife of 35 years of Watertown, he leaves two sons, John G. Griffith and his wife Megan of Mont Vernon, NH.; Donald Payne and his wife Lore of Houston, TX.; two daughters Barbara Cappellina and her husband Anthony of Waterbury, Connie Griffith and her husband Richard Weaving of Gilbert, AZ., a sister Sally Egan of Pauley's Island, SC., and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Hillary Kingsley Griffith Cole.

Funeral service Thursday at 11 a.m. at Gateway Bible Church, 500 Buckingham Street, Oakville, CT 06779. Burial with military honors will be private and at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. The O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main Street Oakville has been entrusted with arrangements.
