Banking Executive and Proud Irishman

SOUTHINGTON - John "Jack" Slavin, age 87 of Southington, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, September 10, 2021, which coincidentally was his late wife's birthday, at the Southington Care Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Jean (Parthenay) Slavin, who passed in 2000.

Jack was born on September 20, 1933 in Waterbury, the son of the late James and Alice (Fox) Slavin. He attended local schools including the University of Connecticut and Williams College, School of Banking. Jack began his banking career at Colonial Bank in Waterbury in 1955. He was the President of the Bank Computer Center of CT in Newington and was one of four men who help start a "de nova bank", The Equity Bank in Wethersfield which eventually was purchased by Webster Bank of Waterbury. He was a Past President of the Waterbury JAYCEES, a member of the Waterbury Chapter of the Data Processing Management Association, and a Past Board Member of the National Association of Bank Servicers. Jack volunteered at the United Way of Waterbury, St. Marys Hospital and a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Jack always had that Irish twinkle in his bright blue eyes and was proud of his Irish heritage. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.

Left to honor and cherish his memory, are his children; sons, John E. Slavin and his wife, Maria of Waterbury and Jeff Slavin and his wife, Rose of Wolcott, and his daughter, Jeanne Neveu and Andy Van Leuvan of New Britain. He was especially proud of his seven grandchildren: John J, Michael C, Michelle L. James J, Jaclyn R. Neveu, Danielle N. Neveu and Laura R. Denny, 3 great grandchildren and several cousins and close friends including Mike, Eric, David, and Randy.

Funeral services for Mr. Slavin will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, SS Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the Slavin family at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1987 East Main St Waterbury CT 06705 on Friday morning from 9:30 till the procession leaves for church at 10:30 a.m. We remain concerned about the ongoing pandemic so masks will be required during all indoor services, whether you are vaccinated or not.
