WATERBURY Mr. John E. "Jack" Moriarty, age 89 of Waterbury. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19th 2020, at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, after an extended illness. He was the widower of Marian (Basilico) Moriarty.
Jack was born on April 8th 1931 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late John E. and Viola (Davis) Moriarty. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, Jack graduated from Bunker Hill Elementary School and Wilby High School. Jack spent many years working for Torrington Supply Company and the Harry Molaver Company until his retirement in 2010 at the age of 79. John was a parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church and was politically active in the City of Waterbury. He was a former member of the Waterbury Democratic Town Committee and was also very active with the Jarjura for Mayor Campaign. Jack was also a sports enthusiast and former Commissioner of the Waterbury Youth Football League, as well as an official at many of the local high school swim meets. Jack will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, as he made many contributions to local and worldwide charities. Jack had a lifelong love of Cape Cod, which he shared with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, the Caribbean and California with his beloved wife, Marian. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to remember, cherish and honor Jack's memory and legacy are his two sons, John B. Moriarty and his wife, Theodora of San Diego, CA and Jeffrey Moriarty, of Waterbury as well as his two beloved grandchildren, Leah and Connor Moriarty, his great granddaughter, Zaïa Maryam Moriarty as well as several nieces and nephews, including Gary Reardon of Waterbury. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Mayo.
Due to the current governmental restrictions concerning COVID 19, funeral services for Mr. Moriarty will be limited to his immediate family.
