LOVED TO TRAVEL AND SPEND TIME WITH HIS FAMILY
WATERTOWN - John Butler O'Brien age 78 of Watertown, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 22nd, 2019. He was the husband of Barbara (Smith) O'Brien.
Jack was born August 14, 1941 in Easton, PA, the son of the late John and Irene (Mitman) O'Brien. He was raised and educated in Easton, PA and received his undergraduate from Lafayette College where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and received his PHD in Chemistry from the University of New Hampshire . John was a longtime employee of Uniroyal Chemical in Middlebury where he worked as a chemist for over 40 years before his retirement. His last role was director of licensing and business development. After retirement, he began doing consulting work which provided him with the opportunity to travel all over the world. He especially enjoyed his trips to Japan. Jack enjoyed golfing, and gardening but was always happiest while spending time with his family and always looked forward to his family vacations.
Left to cherish his memory and honor Jacks' love and legacy are his wife, Barbara of 56 years, his son, Colin O'Brien and his wife, Kimberly of Canton, CT, and his daughter, Erin Bennett of Cheshire. He also leaves his three sisters; Patricia Sensenig of Lititz, PA, Geraldine Alley of Easton, PA and Gail Zapp of Phillipsburg, NJ. Jack and Barbara were blessed with four grandchildren; Jeremy, Connor, Jack and Mackenzie.
Funeral Services for Mr. O'Brien will be held on Saturday, December 28th 2019 at 11:00 am at All Saints Episcopal Church 262 Main St Oakville, CT. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Jack's family on Friday, December 27, from 6 to 8:00pm at O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779.
