THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF JOHN PATRICK MACSWEENEY.
WESTBROOK CT - John Patrick MacSweeney, age 85 of Westbrook formerly of Watertown passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Cecilia (Mueller) MacSweeney.
Mr. MacSweeney was born on March 17, 1933 in Oakville CT, the son of the late Timothy E and Rose (Rinaldi) MacSweeney. He attended Crosby High School and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was the owner and operator with his wife, of the Watertown Rest Home for over 40 years. He also worked for the State of CT, Department of Motor Vehicle as an Inspector for over 25 years. John was a model railroad enthusiast as well as an avid restorer of vintage automobiles. He was an active member of the CT Historical Automobile Club Inc, "Crankin Yanks Model T Club". He and his wife were longtime residents of Watertown where they were members of St Mary Magdalen Church and then Westbrook, where they were members of St Marks Parish. John was well known for his fine Irish wit and humor but what mattered most to John was his family. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Besides his devoted wife, the light of his life for 64 wonderful years, John leaves his eight children; Tim E. and his wife, Roberta of Woodbury, John of Litchfield, Steven and his wife, Marcia of Watertown, Thomas and his wife, Gretchen of Grandview MO, Nancy Calo and her husband, Joseph of Bethlehem. Margaret LaPointe of Oakville, Laura MacSweeney of Watertown and Joan MacSweeney of Litchfield. He also leaves a brother Robert G MacSweeney and his wife, Diane of Winter Park FL and 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters; Rosemary and Kathleen and his grandson, James LaPointe.
Funeral services for Mr. MacSweeney will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church Buckingham St Oakville at 10:00 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church, Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with John's family on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the O'Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St. Oakville CT.
