Waterbury - Mr. John Opalenik Jr. age 90, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, April 22nd 2013.
John was born September 6th 1922, the son of the late John and Bertha (Chaivanick) Opalenik. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident and graduated from Leavenworth High School. He proudly served his country during WWII with the US Navy aboard the CVE-31 USS Prince William during the Pacific Theater Campaign. He worked as a Mechanical inspector for the US Government for many years before retiring and enjoyed taking trips to the casino's and was an avid horse racing fan.
A Memorial Gathering for Mr. Opalenik will be held on Saturday, April 27th 2013 at EASTSIDE MEMORIAL " A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center" 1987 East Main Street @ Southmayd Road in Waterbury from 9:00 ~ 10:00 a.m. followed by committal services with full military honors in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Memorial donations in John's memory may be made to the Saint Vincent DePaul Shelter at 114 Benedict St Waterbury, CT 06706 or to the charity of the donors choice.
