John G. Pappas ?" age 91 formerly of Mapleridge Dr Waterbury died peacefully Monday Feb. 25 at Wolcott View Manor after an extended illness. He was the widower of Virginia (Casey) Pappas.
Mr. Pappas was born December 27th 1916 the son of the late Gus and Margaret (Anagnost) Pappas. He was educated and lived in the Bristol area for over 30 years. He served in the US Army during WWII as a staff Sergeant where he participated in many campaigns in the Pacific Theater and was a two time recipient of the Purple Heart. He worked for the United States Postal service for many years as a clerk in the Waterbury branch before his retirement. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and served as a volunteer for many years at Waterbury hospital. His hobbies included bowling and gardening.
Among his survivors are 5 sons John M., David, and Joseph, of Waterbury; Robert and Richard Pappas of Wolcott, as well as a daughter Kathy Shea of Thomaston. He is predeceased by two children Alan and Mary Pappas.
Funeral Friday 9:15 a.m. from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main Street, to Saints Peter and Paul Church for Mass at 10:30. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
