WOLCOTT- John Francis "Jack" Phelan, age 76, of Wolcott passed away peacefully on Monday February 17th 2020 at the Vitas innovative care unit at Saint Mary's surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness. He was the loving husband of Christine (Peterson) Phelan for 57 years.
Jack was born October 25th 1943 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Vida (Dumas) Phelan. He was educated in local school and spent over 20 years at Scoville's Manufacturing as a plater until he became disabled which limited his ability to full time work. Jack was a loving father, grandfather and a very sweet man. He touched the hearts of everyone he knew. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool and was a member of the Waterbury Deep Sea Fishing club. Jack had an unbelievable affection and love for animals and nature, whether it be his beloved fur babies or animals and birds in the back yard, Jack would enjoy spending time feeding animals in the yard and had special bond with his dogs and cats.
Left to cherish his memory and honor his love and legacy are his loving wife, Christine, his son John A. Phelan and his wife, Doreen of Waterbury, his daughter's Kristan Pajewski and her husband, Scott of Sparta, NJ and Jamey Ahearn and her former husband, William of Wolcott. He also leaves his brother, Joseph David Phelan of Oak Harbor, WA. and his four grandchildren, Madison, Thaddeus, Zachary, and Marly. He is predeceased by his siblings Richard and Robert Phelan.
Funeral services for Mr. Phelan will be held on Monday March 2nd 2020 at 10:30 am at The First Congregational Church of Waterbury 222 W. Main St Waterbury 06702. Burial will be held at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury has been honored to assist the Phelan family with arrangements. To honor John's memory and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack's name can be made to the American Heart association or your local ASPCA.
