Waterbury- Mr. John P. Reilly age 76 of Waterbury passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital on Tuesday December 27th, 2016 after a brief illness. He was the former husband of Barbara Reilly
John was born June 24th 1940 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Patrick and Eleanor (Earley) Reilly. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and he was a graduate from Fairfield University and certified in education from Fairfield University. John was a school teacher for the City of Waterbury where he taught English at Wilby High School for over 35 years. He also taught at Waterbury Adult Ed. and spent many years working in the circulation department of the Republican American newspaper. John was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Knights of Columbus and the Waterbury Elks. He enjoyed golfing, attending the horse races in Saratoga and was an avid Red Sox and NY Giants fan. John cherished his family and always enjoyed spending time with them and would always make time to attend all of his grandchildren's events whether it was a sporting event or recital.
The Reilly family would like to thank and acknowledge Stanley DeCosta and the staff of the Cheshire House the nursing and administrative staff at Vitas Hospice along with Daren Mauro for all the love, care, and support they provided to John and his family during his illness.
Among his survivors are his children, Kevin Reilly and his wife, Gerilynn of Waterbury, Brian Reilly and his wife, Suzanne of Southington, Sean Reilly of Wolcott, Mark Reilly of Southington, Karen Nadolny and her husband, Raymond of Watertown, with whom he made his home, Megan Plourde and her husband, Michael of Branford. He also leaves a brother Brian R. Reilly and his wife, Jaclyn of Waterbury as well as his 8 grandchildren, Madison, Riley, Aidan, Colin, Liam, Mimi, Parker and Sailor.
Funeral Services for Mr. Reilly will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 9:30 am from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. to SS Peter & Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury Relatives and friends may visit with Mr. Reilly's family on Friday afternoon from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. To extend on-line expressions of sympathy to the family or for additional information, kindly visit the funeral home website at :
