THOMASTON- John L. Schum age 73 of Thomaston, passed away at Saint Mary's Hospital on December 1st 2016 after a brief illness. He was the widower of
Marie (Bergin) Schum.
John was born December 8, 1942 in Waterbury, CT, the son of Grace (Carrington) Schum of Waterbury and the late John J Schum. He was a graduate of Kaynor Technical School and worked as the Vice President of Sales for Dyna Lock of Bristol. John was a published author of Electronic Locking Devices and was an avid UCONN Women's Husky fan, and enjoyed studying genealogy, collecting antiques, and taking trips to the casino.
Besides his mother, Grace, John is survived by his son, John M. Schum Sr., of New
Haven, his daughter, Dawn Marie Speer and her husband, Scott of Kensington, his brother, Martin Schum of Fort Meyers, Fl. and his sister, Janet Boucher and her husband, Andrew of Waterbury in addition to his grandson, several nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Schum will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Relative and friends may visit with Mr. Schum's family on Monday morning from 9;00am until the time of the service at 11:00am.
